Job Summary

The Production Coordinator position is an opportunity for emerging and aspiring documentary producers and filmmakers to work on an ambitious slate of independent feature documentary films.

The position begins in January 2025 for three days a week, with the opportunity to extend in a full-time capacity if it's a good fit on both sides.

This is a mainly work-from-home opportunity with an average of one day a week in person, and the opportunity to travel on occasional production shoots.

Looking for New York City-based candidates.

Duties

The Production Coordinator position assumes the following responsibilities:

Working on several documentary projects simultaneously, on both independent documentaries and short form video journalism work
Clerical duties including assistance with expense reporting, logging purchase orders, budget upkeep, production paperwork, and office administration
Providing field support during production periods
Grant writing, grant submission, and grant tracking for active documentary projects
Designing treatment decks and websites for upcoming and ongoing projects
Coordinating upcoming shoots, story research and development, and archival research
Production-to-post workflow management, DIT, and rights + clearance support
Assistant editing duties including reviewing dailies, organizing footage, and editing string outs
Helping develop paper edits, and giving creative feedback on rough cuts
Assisting in choosing, developing, and producing new documentary projects
Developing a network of filmmakers, institutions, and funders
Supporting efforts to bring in new opportunities to the company
NOT responsible for personal assistant tasks

About the Company

Muddy Water is an independent production company, film studio, artist collective, and record label. The company earned its reputation producing music videos on 16mm for Rosalia, Khalid, Ms. Lauryn Hill, and others.

Muddy Water expanded into documentary work in 2022 and is producing a slate of documentary feature films under the leadership of its Head of Documentary, Ike Rofe.

Muddy Water's documentary division is drawn to high concept, slice-of-life, and immersive documentaries with dynamic characters, locations, and story arcs led by directors with a distinct point of view, as well as a refined and artistic visual style. Our films avoid the overuse of traditional sit-down interviews. We are drawn to topics related to activism, music, art, and food.

All of our documentary films are in the pre-release phase. We are anticipating four of our films to release by the end of 2026. Our films have been supported by The Ford Foundation, Catapult Film Fund, Rainin Foundation, Southern Documentary Fund, and Freedom of the Press Foundation, among others.
