As a Postal Clerk you will oversees the movement, sorting, and distribution of mail at McMurdo Station, Antarctica. Performs a variety of detailed accounting duties in accordance with standard accounting procedures with minimal supervision and guidance.

SALARY: $756 - $859 per week
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Follows and applies DOD, USAF, PACAF, U.S. Postal Service (USPS), Military Postal Service Agency (MPSA), Joint Military Postal Activity-PAC (JMPA-PAC), 6005 AIRPS and PACAF AIRPS directives/policies as they pertain to the Military Postal Service (MPS), Air Force postal operations, and financial issues in the PACAF command in support of the McMurdo APO.
- Assists customers who need help with filing USPS insurance claims.
- Assists Postal Supervisor with preparations for official USAF quarterly audits.
- Support of U.S. Air Force and South Pole postal activities as needed. Assists Postal Supervisor with pre-deployment training for South Pole postal supervisor.
- Performs the duties of the Postal Supervisor in the latter position's absence.
- Performs the sorting, receipt, and distribution of accountable and non-accountable mail at McMurdo Station, Antarctica. Scans all mail on arrival and again when it is delivered or becomes Directory Service mail. Tracking information is uploaded daily on AMPS.
- Completes all AMPS training when required by MPSA.
- Monitors and maintains current file of bi-monthly USPS Postal Bulletins per DOD.
- Provides a Directory Service for all misrouted mail and mail addressed to personnel no longer at McMurdo Station. Maintains a current file of forwarding cards.
- Controls USPS and Air Force-owned non-accountable equipment.
- Coordinates with the Movement Control Center for outgoing and incoming accountable and non-accountable mail.
- Must be able to lift and move 75 lbs.
- Ensures compliance with Safety, Environment, Health, and Waste Management policies and procedures.
- Interacts with the National Science Foundation, armed forces, and other agency officials, both over the telephone and in person, in a professional and tactful manner.
- Responsible for maintaining a safe workplace program and ensuring safety is the highest priority in the work place. Ongoing work center cleaning and recycling tasks.
- Orders Postal supplies from many different sources, such as MDC, USPS and GSA. Keeps all inventory records up to date. Performs complete inventory twice per year.
- Orders and maintains all PACAF-required posters and visual aids in the lobby, post office and mailroom.
- Maintains a log of all personnel deployed to camps and unit mail departments. Utilizing the log to ensure that all camp mail is distributed to the proper Unit Mail Clerk (DD285).
- Participates in MCI trainings and drill as determined by supervisor.
- Trains Unit Mail Clerks and assists them with their duties. Maintains official Unit Mail Clerk records.
- Safeguards all mail to the highest standards of safety, security and privacy.
- Follows all current PACAF directives for election mail.
- Completes and maintains all PS3849s in compliance with USPS regulations for accountable mail.
- When needed, assists Postal Supervisor to prepare all mail for dispatch.
- Keeps Safety Log and AF Training Log updated.
- Performs other duties as required.
EDUCATION:
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
CERTIFICATIONS AND/OR LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:
- AMPs account required or ability to obtain prior to employment.
- Current ServSafe Food Handler certificate must be obtained prior to deployment to Antarctica.
- Valid driver's license
- Valid U.S. Passport
EXPERIENCE:
- Two years of customer service experience required.
- Basic computer skills with word processing, spreadsheets and databases required.Previous experience with Station Services in Antarctica may be accepted on lieu of minimum experience.
OTHER:
- US citizenship and permanent residency required.
- A prerequisite of employment for this position is to successfully gain a favorable Tier 1 - Elevated Background Investigation (EBI) result prior to deployment.
