ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Screen and checks-in patients and escorts patients to treatment areas.
- Accurately prepares room & patient for examinations, therapeutic measures and procedures assuring all needed equipment and supplies are available prior to the start of the exam.
- Take, monitor, and records physiological measurements.
- Triage urgent needs.
- Assist with medical treatment, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures per treatment protocols.
- Prepare and administers medications under the supervision of a nurse or health care provider.
- Chaperone patients.
- Assemble, maintains, and operates medical, diagnostic, and therapeutic equipment.
- Maintain or assist with appropriate and accurate health record storage and retrieval systems.
- Prepare and submits administrative reports.
- Provide patient/parent education as requested.
- Assist with routine endoscopic procedures to include: EGD, CSP, ERCP, Ph/Manometry testing, Hydrogen Breath Analysis, Liver Biopsies, and PEG/PEG-J Placement.
- Assist with emergency procedures to include GI Bleeds, Food Obstructions, and foreign Body Obstructions.
- Upon completion of procedures and examinations, properly clean and organize room and perform any necessary cleaning of equipment as established by departmental policies and procedures and standards.
- Required to perform gastroenterology services.
- Ensure all equipment is properly cleaned and stored at the end of each work shift.
- Ensure preventive maintenance and routine cleaning are performed as directed.
- Ensure a safe work environment and employee safe work habits.
- Provide patients with the utmost care and attention. All patients shall be assured of their privacy and personal dignity.
- Prepare all documentation to meet or exceed established standards of the MTF, to include, but not limited to, timeliness, accuracy, content, and signature.
- Follows all OSHA and infection control standard related to the delivery of gastroenterology services. Maintains training and certification required for High-Level Disinfection (HLD) of endoscopic equipment to the highest standard.
- Communicates effectively with RN and physician regarding workflow and potential unforeseen delays or changes to patient care.
- Maintains well-stocked procedural rooms and backstock, maintains an accurate supply inventory, and orders supplies promptly to maintain appropriate inventory par levels.
- Maintains organized, well-maintained system of quality, safety and infection control checklists.
- Assists with administrative support, preparing clinic patient charts, obtaining records from outside facilities, contacting patients at physician request, and scheduling appointments.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completion of a medical assisting program recognized and accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES); or certified through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) for Certified Medical Assistants (CMA); or the American Medical Technologists (AMT) for Registered Medical Assistants (RMA); or equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience (i.e., military training).
- Must have a current specialty area certificate from an accredited national, state, or military trained equivalent school, and show the ability to perform position duties.
- At least twelve (12) months experience in the past twenty-four (24) months.
- Shall have at least 6 months experience in HLD within the past 24 months (USAFA ONLY)
- Must possess and maintain current Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) All certifications listed must be maintained. Expired certifications are not valid.
- Must obtain and maintain any necessary security access and/or background checks.
- Must obtain and maintain all required documents, certifications, licenses, etc. listed on the credentialling checklist, sent by Katmai’s Credentialing Specialist, for this position for initial hire.
