Capability Unit
Metrea AeroSpace Design (MASD) provides engineering design and certification services for aircraft modifications, including special mission modifications, avionics upgrades and advanced communications capabilities.
Position Summary
The Structural Analysis Engineer performs structural engineering analysis to ensure drawings and designs comply with FAA regulations for Part 23 and Part 25 Aircraft.
Role and Responsibilities
The Structural Analysis Engineer's responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Provide structural engineering and analysis support for modifications to business aircraft, general aviation aircraft, commercial derivative aircraft, and special missions aircraft.
- Crucial responsibility to ensure compliance with FAA regulations.
- Review and analyze drawings, Engineering Orders, and repair designs, and produce Structural Substantiation Reports to support FAA/ODA STC development efforts and significant alterations.
- Utilize Finite Element Method (FEM) support for analysis and must also validate by classical hand analysis methods, subject to acceptance by FAA Designated Engineering Representatives (DER) or ODA Unit Members.
- Guide structural design engineers and occasionally provide structural design support and development of other certification documents.
- Designs for analysis primarily consisting of sheet metal and machined components, with occasional use of composite materials.
- Develop simulation tools and processes to solve structural dynamics problems.
- Perform structural strength analysis using classical and computer-aided techniques.
- Additional duties may be assigned as needed.
Skills and Experience
- Static Analysis experience.
- Prior experience in AutoCad, SolidWorks, and FEM analysis.
- Fatigue and damage tolerance analysis experience.
- Understanding of FEM Analysis tools.
- Prior experience in MMPDS and fastener allowable, common aerospace materials and practices.
- High level of learning, strategic thinking, team building, conflict resolution, and time management.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for briefing and presentation delivery to program employees, management, and customers.
- Must be able to manage heavy workloads and prioritize.
- Must maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- Must be able to accomplish all duties with little or no assistance.
- Good command of the English language, both oral and written.
- Creative problem-solver with high ethical standards and an appropriate professional image.
- Sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment, and strong operational focus.
- Aviation-related activities.
Education, Experience, and Certificates
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in aerospace or mechanical engineering required.
Experience:
- 3-5 years of Aircraft structural analysis using hand calculations required.
Certificates:
Computer Skills:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time Salary position with typical working hours Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Hours and work shifts may change by department and business needs. Exempt employees must have the ability to be on-call and available as required by business needs.

This job operates in an environment that varies from a clerical office setting using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets to a warehouse setting with various weather and temperature conditions, including extreme heat, humidity, and cold. It also operates in shop-floor locations, ramps, and outdoors with potentially adverse weather conditions and high noise levels.
