Capability Unit
As a Capability Unit within Metrea, Metrea Spectrum Operations (MSO) provides tactical Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) services, with a dedicated focus on Signals Intelligence and Electronic Warfare training and mission support.
Position Summary
This role is responsible for conducting instruction and training on Signals Intelligence (SI), Electronic Warfare (EW), and Cyber Enablement technologies, tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs). This work involves both classroom and field instruction and training as well as creating, planning, and participating in military training courses and exercises as a SI Instructor. This role may also involve SI/EW support in an operational capacity in support of U.S government missions overseas on a volunteer basis.
Role and Responsibilities
- Conduct in-person classroom training and instruction on Radio Frequency theory, advanced telecommunications technologies and protocols, SI/EW collection and analysis, tactical ground and airborne SI/ EW operations, and TTPs focused on planning and executing SI/EW operations.
- Serve as a SI Instructor on military training exercises by providing live signal environments, scripting and scenario development, managing role players, and mentoring military personnel on SI/EW operations and TTPs.
- Plan and execute custom full spectrum military training exercises. Specific duties may include scenario development and scripting, logistical planning, creating complex live signal environments, managing SI role players, and overseeing the execution of the exercise.
- Conduct syllabus reviews in coordination with other instructors and the Director to ensure syllabus design supports the customer requirements.
- Maintain and continually increase proficiency in SI/EW equipment, technologies, protocols, tactics, techniques, and procedures.
- May serve as an SI Operator in support of U.S. government missions overseas on a volunteer basis.
Skills and Experience
- Must possess strong technical proficiency in Signals Intelligence, Electronic Warfare and Cyberspace theory, operations, TTPs, equipment, and associated technologies, to include, but not limited to: LINUX, computer networking, antenna construction/employment, and HF/VHF/UHF, DMR, GSM, CDMA, UMTS, LTE, 802.11, and Bluetooth protocols.
- Must possess the ability to maintain and quickly gain proficiency on emerging SI/EW equipment, technologies, and TTPs.
- Must possess above average initiative and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision or guidance.
- Must possess strong communications skills and a solid command of the English language, both oral and written, and be comfortable with public speaking and instructing classes.
- Instructor Level 1: 6 years’ experience conducting SI/EW operations and/or training.
- Instructor Level 2: 8 years’ experience conducting SI/EW operations and/or training, including at least one operational deployment as a SI/EW operator.
- Instructor Level 3: 10 years’ experience conducting SI/EW operations and/or training, including at least two operational deployments as a SI/EW operator.
- Instructor Level 4: 12 years’ experience conducting SI/EW operations and/or training, including at least three operational deployments as a SI/EW operator.
- SI SME: 15 years’ experience including at least four deployments as a SI/EW operator.
- Must have served on active duty with the US military and received an Honorable Discharge (DD214 required on request).
- Preferred: 5 years assigned to an active duty Special Operations unit and held the active duty grade of E-6 or higher.
- Strong proficiency in radio frequency theory.
- Strong proficiency in antenna construction and employment.
- Strong proficiency in military Computer Network Operations/Close Access Cyber Enablement operations and TTPs.
- Strong proficiency in LINUX and Windows operating systems.
- Strong proficiency in Digital Push To Talk radio programming and networking.
- Strong proficiency in 3dB Labs’ SCEPTRE software.
- Strong proficiency in Government Off The Shelf SI/EW equipment systems common to Special Operations Forces.
- Strong proficiency in telecommunications protocols to include, but not limited to:
- HF/VHF/UHF analog and Digital Push To Talk protocols.
- Legacy and emerging cellular protocols.
- WiFi and Bluetooth protocols.
- Advanced/emerging signal sets and technologies.
Certificates and Licenses
- Instructor Levels 1 and 2: FCC Amateur Radio Technician License.
- Instructor Level 3: FCC Amateur Radio General License and LINUX Academy Fundamentals.
- Instructor Level 4: FCC Amateur Radio General License, LINUX Academy Fundamentals, Security Plus certification.
- SI SME: FCC Amateur Radio Extra License, LINUX Academy fundamentals, Security Plus certification, Mode Instructor or I/E Certs.
- Valid Driver’s License.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position with typical working hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Hours and work shifts may change in accordance with department and business needs. Exempt Employees must have the ability to be on-call and available, as business needs require. Non-Exempt employees may be required to work over 40 hours per week with approval from the department manager.
Travel
Travel requirements for full time employees are 50% minimum (150 billable days per year). There are no minimum travel requirements for part time employees.
