Description
Machinery Maintenance Mechanics provide essential maintenance and repair services to ensure the proper functioning of machinery and equipment. They apply basic knowledge and experience to perform routine maintenance tasks, typically by following established maintenance procedures and guidelines. They are fully qualified, trained, and knowledgeable in the support, maintenance, and operation of machinery. Mechanics document discrepancies using reporting forms as required. A 3-M coordinator is responsible for overseeing and managing the preventive maintenance program, ensuring all equipment is properly maintained and operational by coordinating maintenance schedules, monitoring work completion, and ensuring compliance with Navy 3-M system regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Demonstrated competence through satisfactory, progressive performance as a Machinery Maintenance Mechanic.
- Proficient in the use and operation of maintenance equipment to perform routine maintenance tasks and to perform preventive maintenance using maintenance cards and instruction books.
- Basic skills necessary to diagnose and isolate malfunctions in machinery; align, adjust, and calibrate installed machinery; interpret maintenance manuals and prepare simplified versions.
- Basic skills to perform maintenance, adjustments, and tests on machinery; analyze operation, verify discrepancies, isolate malfunctions, and replace defective components used in installed devices.
- Maintain basic proficiency in the use of maintenance programs, interpretation of results, and the use of program listings to isolate faults.
- Proficient in the use of maintenance equipment, repair of machinery systems, and machinery control systems.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance using maintenance requirement cards and instructional manuals; perform daily system readiness tests, pre-operational and post-operational checkouts.
- Exhibit high performance and capability to work in a team environment.
- Able to work independently, with normal supervision
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Other duties and requirements as identified and/or prescribed to meet program requirements.
- A 3-M coordinator creates and manages preventive maintenance schedule based on 3-M system, assigning tasks and ensuring timely completion of maintenance actions.
- Conducts regular spot checks to verify maintenance is being performed correctly, according to procedures, and that proper documentation is maintained.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including equipment status, repair history, and parts inventory.
- Implement quality control measures to verify maintenance is performed to standard and identifying areas for improvement.
- Ensuring maintenance personnel are properly trained and qualified to perform their assigned maintenance tasks according to 3-M guidelines.
- Monitoring and managing the inventory of spare parts needed for maintenance, ensuring timely procurement and availability.
- Investigating any equipment failures or maintenance-related incidents to identify root causes and prevent future occurrences.
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in machinery maintenance in environments of comparable complexity.
- Graduation from a high school or completion of equivalent formal training.
- Experience and competence in at least four (4) of the following areas:
- Mechanical repairs
- Electrical repairs
- Hydraulic system maintenance
- Pneumatic system maintenance
- Welding and fabrication
- Preventive maintenance
- Troubleshooting and diagnostics
- Additionally, experience and competence in at least three (3) of the following areas:
- Operating and maintaining CNC machines
- General maintenance and repair
- Performing minor plumbing repairs
- Handling hazardous materials
- Performing minor HVAC repairs
- Maintaining inventory of maintenance supplies
- Performing preventative and corrective maintenance on machinery

Security Responsibilities
- Obtain and maintain (if required) a DoD Personnel Security Clearance.
- Must comply with all company Information Systems security policies and procedures.
- Obtain and maintain (if required) Security+ certification
- May be responsible for proper classification and marking of all information and materials. Employee shall not divulge any information or afford access to other employees not having a need-to-know authorization. Shall not divulge information outside company without management approval. Will be required to execute company non-disclosure agreement prior to access to any controlled information.
Language Skills
Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language. Must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret the complex word and technical documents/diagrams.
Must be able to effectively communicate orally and in writing and work effectively as part of a team.
Reasoning Ability and Mathematical Skills
Must be able to analyze problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. An ability to interpret complex customer requirements and attitudes from verbal, non-verbal, and written communication is desirable. Must be able to calculate figures and numbers, and percentages and be able to draw and interpret graphs. Ability to read and understand electrical schematics and drawings.
